In-Mold Structural Electronics for Sustainable Smart Surfaces

In-Mold Structural Electronics for Sustainable Smart Surfaces

In-mold structural electronics (IMSE®) represent a paradigm shift, converting conventional structures into intelligent, interactive surfaces. These surfaces not only offer advanced functionality but also play a significant role in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions when compared to traditional electronics.

At TactoTek®, our commitment extends beyond technological innovation. We are actively engaged in the exploration of recycled and bio-based materials for IMSE production and simultaneously researching recycling methodologies for IMSE waste and end-of-life products.

In this white paper, we introduce the results of two LCA studies conducted for a car overhead control panel and a coffee maker control panel. Both studies show a remarkable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Also, the verification process of recycled and biobased materials for IMSE material stack and recycling methods for IMSE are discussed.
